Red-throated Loon on nest

(Østfold, Norway, June 2008)

The female is incubating eggs on the nest.

When no dangers nearby, she lies with the head high,

In the meantime, the male is preening his feathers.

When danger approaches, she lays down her head and neck,

and finally disappears in the water.

The chicks are about to come out of the eggs.

When the danger is gone, she quickly returns to the nest.

The eggs are turned.

After a couple of minutes messing around with the eggs, she finally lies down again.
